Receive CHRIST

Do you know that you can die twice?  The Bible speaks of the possibility of dying twice. It speaks not only of the possibility but says that some people actually will die a second time.  It is called the second death.

(Rev 2:11)  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

(Rev 20:6)  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

(Rev 20:14)  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

(Rev 21:8)  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The Bible also teaches that all those who are not in right standing with GOD through JESUS CHRIST will die the second death which we call hell.

The Bible also reveals that GOD out of HIS love for us has made a very plain way we can avoid the second death by understanding the way to receive everlasting life.

First we must agree with GOD that we are all sinners.

Romans 3:10 (KJV)  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Romans 3:23 (KJV)  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Sin is simply defined as breaking the laws of GOD.

(1Jn 3:4 KJV)  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Plainly speaking a sinner is another word for lawbreaker in the Kingdom of GOD. We are all outlaws without CHRIST so to speak.

Second, it is important to know that we are sinners by nature.

We are not sinners because we have sin but rather we sin because we are sinners.

Rom 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

One man Adam, disobey GOD whose nature was changed to a sinful nature and he passed that nature to his offspring.   We are born sinners in other words. I was born a sinner because my father was a sinner. My father was a sinner because his father was a sinner and it goes on back to Adam. We got the sin nature from our parents.  A pig acts like a pig because it is born with a pig nature. A dog will not act like a pig.  A bird will not act like a cat. A sinner can only do what a sinner does; sin. It is our nature to sin.

Third, we must understand that none of us will receive everlasting life by how good we are.

The word sin in the Greek bible language is the word hamartano┬».  It means missing the mark. Like missing the bull's eye of a target, we fall short of GOD'S standard of righteousness.

Rom 3:12  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

No matter how good we may think we are, we are never good enough because we have already missed the target which is GOD'S glory. GOD only accepts perfection.

Fourth, we must be aware that death is the penalty for sin.

Romans 6:23 (KJV)  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Death is the payment, penalty or punishment for sin.

Jas 1:15  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Eze 18:4  Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinnethit shall die.

Fifth, we can rejoice because JESUS paid the penalty for the whole world.

But God commendeth [revealed] his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  JESUS who never sinned, GOD in human form, died on the cross taking the punishment for sin for us.

2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for uswho knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Col 2:14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

JESUS took what we deserved by dying on the cross.

Sixth, we further rejoice because HIS death makes everlasting life a gift from GOD.

Remember that the Bible says Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Another among many scriptures that show that everlasting life is a gift and not earned is Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Grace is the undeserved kindness, the unearned, goodness and unmerited favor of GOD.

1.      There is only two things you can do with a gift.

a.     Receive it

b.    Reject it

2.    You cannot earn a gift or pay for a gift. If you earn it or pay for it; it is not a gift. If you work for it or pay one penny for it is not a gift. You can only receive it and say thank you or reject it and say no thank you.

Seventh, the way you receive this wonderful gift of life from GOD is by receiving CHRIST as LORD.

Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Everlasting life is not a tangible gift you can put in your pocket or unwrap and put in your closet. It must be received in a spiritual way.

1.     Two things to do to receive this gift.

a.    Confess with your mouth the LORD JESUS.

You have to own JESUS to others as LORD of your life.

Owning JESUS by speaking it is the hand that receives the gift.

b.   Believe in thine heart GOD raised HIM from the dead.

Note it says believe in your heart. You trust not with your head but with your heart. It is a trusting belief. There are a lot of things we do not understand with our mines but we trust with our hearts none the less. Your head may not understand it but your heart can trust it. Trust in your heart that JESUS is alive.

2.    Thou shalt be saved.

Everlasting life becomes yours as a free gift from GOD.

a.    You receive the gift of right standing with GOD.

[10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 4:3  For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Rom 4:4  Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

Rom 4:5  But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

b.   Confession is made unto salvation.

[10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Just as a man and a women own each other at the altar with their mouths as husband and wife. So we own JESUS as our LORD and SAVIOR. If we own HIM, HE will own us.

Mat 10:32  Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 10:33  But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

I have just told you how you can avoid the second death. Remember the second death is everlasting torment. There is no parole. There is no getting out for good behavior. If you end up there it is forever.

Do not gamble with your soul settle things with GOD now by speaking these following words to GOD.  "Thank you GOD for your love for me and for giving JESUS your only SON who died to pay for my sins.    I now own you JESUS as the Ruler of my life and the one who saved me from the penalty of sin by your death on the cross.  I receive your forgiveness as I admit that I am a sinner and have done things displeasing to you.  I believe you were raised from the dead and are alive today. Therefore I have received everlasting life as a gift from you without any goodness or deeds of my own.  Please take control of my life that I may be a witness of your love to others."
